How I Can Help
I am a patient advocate with a thirty year background in pharmacy and neurology. I have worked in hospitals and retail community pharmacies. I have worked in the ER and ICU.

1. Understand the Patient's Needs: I will listen carefully to your concerns and needs. I have the training and experience to understand your medical condition, medication regimen, and any challenges you are facing.

2. Review Medication Records: I have the skills to thoroughly look at the patient's medication records, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, and any supplements. I will ensure you have the latest information on your medications and any potential interactions.

3. Educate the Patient: I can provide clear and concise information about your medications, including dosage instructions, potential side effects, and any necessary precautions. I will ensure you understand why you are taking each medication and how it will benefit you.

4. Assess Adherence: I will check the patient's adherence to their medication regimen. I will address any concerns you may have about side effects, cost, or other barriers that may be affecting your adherence.

5. Collaborate with Healthcare Providers: I will work closely with the patient's healthcare team, including doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers. I will ensure open communication to streamline care and address any concerns.

6. Advocate for the Patient: I will advocate for the patient's needs within the healthcare system. This can include helping you navigate insurance issues, accessing financial assistance programs, or coordinating care between different providers.

7. Follow-up and Monitor Progress: I will schedule regular follow-up appointments to monitor the patient's progress and adjust their medication regimen as needed. I will be available to address any new concerns that may arise.

By following these steps, I can provide comprehensive support to patients as a pharmacist patient advocate.

Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
I have extensive experience in the healthcare system as a pharmacist. However, my decades long career did not prepare me to navigate the system from a patient’s perspective until my sister was diagnosed with cancer. During this time, I faced the challenges of working with expectations, being overwhelmed with appointments and diagnoses. I was able to catch medication errors and interactions. I had to figure out how to help support family members and my nieces throughout the process. I realized how scary and overwhelming it was to be in this position as a patient. I also was a patient myself undergoing multiple surgeries following a motor vehicle accident that resulted in a spinal cord injury. My life and abilities were changed overnight. I was able to use my experience in hospitals and neurology to advocate for my own recovery. I used my work experience to utilize therapies that t my care team did not have the time to discuss with me. I was able to customize and coordinate a plan that fit my expectations and goals which led to a recovery which I am proud of.
