Why I Became A Professional Health Care Advocate
I have been a nurse for over 15 years and have helped patients and families from the beginning of life (NICU) to the end of life. As a nurse, caretaker and at times, patient myself, I understand how difficult it can be to manage one’s healthcare. The time it takes and the worry it induces can be overwhelming. I was living a thousand miles away from my dad when he had several surgeries related to his diabetes. I remember being amazed when, on one particular hospitalization, every person who walked in the room had his health history and medications wrong. I understand the importance of coordinating care and managing health as a whole and not simply treating individual conditions. I also understand sometimes you just want to spend time with family and not be the primary caretaker. Time and health are precious; my goal is to give that back to families.
